Why do powerful men end up as sexual deviants?

I'm not saying ALL powerful men indulge in sexual behaviors society defines as 'perverse,' but we have seen time and time again, powerful men taking advantage of vulnerable women in a sexual manner. Why do men who have money, success, and power, throw it all away by committing SEX crimes?

Sean "Diddy" Combs was arrested Monday, September 16, 2024, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York City said. Combs has faced a wave of lawsuits — one as recent as last week — accusing him of sexual assault and misconduct since November, when former girlfriend Casandra Ventura sued him in federal court, accusing him of years of physical and sexual abuse.

What explanation can be given for sexually abusing women? Well, if we look at the CRIME of rape, we may be able to have a small understanding of why powerful men are drawn to sex crimes.

Many people believe men rape women because they have a high sex drive or find the woman, victim, of the crime sexually irresistible. That is FAR from the TRUTH. It is necessary to first establish that rape is not a behavioral or mental disorder, but a criminal offense.  Although some rapists may have a psychological disorder, there is no such disorder that compels people to rape.

Myth: Rape happens as a result of overwhelming sexual desire.

Fact: Rapists rape as part of their need for power, dominance and control.

Myth: Only young, 'attractive' women and girls are raped.

Fact: People of all ages and appearances, and of all classes, cultures, abilities, genders, sexualities, races and religions, are raped. Rape is an act of violence and control and has nothing to do with the perceived 'attractiveness' of a victim.

Researchers have found the link between narcissism and rape seems to be especially strong when repeat offenders are concerned. One of the key characteristics shared by rapists and narcissists is a tendency to dehumanize others.

Powerful men want MORE power and control. Their need for more power and control, once obtained in the business world, spills over into personal relationships or how they relate to people in general. They seek to exert that control over humans. Their need for money and status fulfilled, they need another outlet to exert their dominance, power and control. Sadly, women become the target of this need.

Rape perpetrators often describe rape as a way to exert power, dominance and control over women and use it indirectly as a tool to conceal insecurities. A sexual assaulter can be any kind of person. This statement isn't meant to make everyone scared of everyone else; rather, it just means that there isn't one specific type who commits such kinds of crimes. That is what Dr. Samuel D. Smithyman, a US clinical psychologist, learned when he anonymously interviewed 50 men back in the 1970s who had confessed to having raped someone. These men had diverse backgrounds, social statuses and, of course, different personalities and mentalities. What surprised him was how unconcerned they sounded when talking about such a criminal offense. Motives behind rape vary and are difficult to quantify. However, studies show that rapists have some common characteristics:

- a lack of empathy

- narcissism

- feelings of hostility towards women 

A federal judge in New York released a document naming, for the first time, dozens of powerful men allegedly associated with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Named in the documents are former presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, celebrities - including the magician David Copperfield, actor Kevin Spacey - and public figures, including Britain's Prince Andrew and attorney Alan Dershowitz. And there are dozens of others. Epstein was accused of operating a sex trafficking ring that victimized dozens of young people while allegedly catering to politicians, billionaires and royalty. Powerful men are named in court records with ties to Jeffrey Epstein : NPR

Sean Combs has been accused of sex trafficking. Sex trafficking is a type of human trafficking that involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to compel someone to perform commercial sex acts for something of value. In many cases, the trafficked person receives nothing.  It's a serious public health problem that affects individuals, families, and communities. Traffickers employ a variety of control tactics, the most common include physical and emotional abuse and threats, isolation from friends and family, and economic abuse. In the case of Combs, his physically abused victims were hidden away until their visual bruises healed.  According to the hotline, California one of the largest sites of human trafficking in the United States. In 2018, 1,656 cases of human trafficking were reported in California.

Sex trafficking is human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation. It has been called a form of MODERN SLAVERY because of the way victims are forced into sexual acts non-consensually, in a form of SEXUAL SLAVERY. The powerful men involved in sex trafficking are acquiring victims for OTHER powerful men.

Hundreds of powerful people — predominately men — have been accused of sexual offenses since the #MeToo movement went viral in 2017. The #MeToo movement focused global attention on previously unchecked sexual misconduct, leading at least 201 powerful men to lose jobs or major positions. Many men have become hostile towards women for the #MeTooMovement blaming them for lying on men or 'setting' men up. Even though there have been trials with lawyers, witnesses and evidence, men continue to BLAME women in sexual assault cases. 

At the moment, we have a presidential candidate, Donald Trump, accused sexual assaults. Since the 1970s, at least 26 women have publicly accused Trump of rape, kissing, and groping without consent; looking under women's skirts; and walking in on naked teenage pageant contestants. Trump has denied all of the allegations. A jury found Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in 1996, awarding her $5 million in a judgment that could haunt the former president as he campaigns to regain the White House. Many of the powerful men who have been accused of sex crimes have been beloved figures on a national scale. The corruption of power, dominance, and control was hidden for years from the public.

Comedian Bill Cosby: In 2018 on 3 counts of aggravated assault for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 2004; sentenced to 3–10 years in state prison, which he is currently serving. Cosby appealed the conviction in late June. Bill Cosby was accused of drugging his victims and having sex with them. In his testimony, Cosby admitted to casual sex involving recreational use of the sedative-hypnotic methaqualone (Quaaludes) with a series of young women, and he acknowledged that his dispensing of the prescription drug was illegal.

USA Gymnastics national team doctor Larry Nassar: In 2018 on 3 counts of sexual assault, sentenced to up to 125 years. More than 260 girls and women claimed Nassar abused them. On November 22, 2017, Nassar pleaded guilty in Ingham County Circuit Court to seven counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with minors under the age of 16. He admitted to molesting seven girls, three of whom were under the age of 13.

Singer R. Kelly: In December for allegedly bribing an Illinois government employee to create a false ID for 15-year-old Aaliyah Haughton, before marrying her. In February, on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving 4 victims, and in May on 11 counts involving aggravated criminal sexual assault.

Nxivm cult leader Keith Raniere: A Brooklyn federal court sentenced him to 120 years in prison on Oct. 27, after he was convicted in June 2019 of sex trafficking, conspiracy, sexual exploitation of a child, racketeering, forced labor and possession of child pornography.

Harvey Weinstein. Weinstein’s web began to unravel in early October, after The New York Times, published a story detailing numerous accusations of sexual harassment against the powerful movie producer, whose films have won a number of Academy Awards. The Times story detailed three decades worth of sexual harassment and unwanted physical contact accusations made against Weinstein by a number of women, including actress Ashley Judd. The piece also mentioned at least eight settlements Weinstein had reached with his accusers through the years.

Chris Savino. Nickelodeon fired the creator of “The Loud House” animated show after a dozen women accused him, in a story from the Hollywood Reporter, of “sexual harassment, unwanted advances and inappropriate behavior.” The accusers also said Savino would threaten to blacklist women he was no longer involved with.

John Besh. The celebrity chef stepped down from the company he founded after about two dozen current and former female employees accused him and other male workers of sexual harassment. They described a hostile corporate culture where sexual harassment flourished. The accounts included inappropriate touching and comments from male employees and managers, some of whom tried to leverage their power for sex. Those who complained were berated, ostracized or ignored.

Mark Halperin. At least a dozen women have accused journalist Mark Halperin of sexually harassing them or assaulting them, with at least some of the incidents coming during his time as political director at ABC News. At first, five women accused Halperin of propositioning employees for sex, kissing and grabbing one woman’s breasts against her will and other forms of inappropriate touching. Days later, more women came forward with other claims, including that Halperin masturbated in front of an ABC News employee and that he violently threw another woman against a restaurant window before trying to kiss her.

The named men above had money, power and status which other men envied and used as role models in their efforts to become successful. All of the above men are examples of when the need to have more power, dominance and controls goes beyond human decency. In their quest for more power, they began to see humans as a means to that end. They DEHUMANIZE others. 

Once a person is able to view other people as not HUMAN, not worthy of respect, empathy, dignity, then that person has lost THEIR HUMANITY and is a CRIMINAL of the worst kind.

The upside to this form of depravity is eventually the law catches up with them. This type of sexual depravity requires many people to witness it. The offender has to have people KNOW his power and reach of control. Like Sean Combs, there is always a trail of evidence testifying to their corrupt mind and heart. Sooner or later, a BRAVE woman comes forth, knowing she will not be believed and attacked by the perpetrator of the crime and his followers or those who are complicit to his crimes. Because of his POWER, MONEY and STATUS, society is reticent to believe he would commit such an atrocity. Sadly, it is often proven that a once celebrated man is a cruel uncaring criminal.

Sex crimes have LITTLE to do with SEX. Allegedly, Sean Combs videotaped his victims having sex with other powerful men in order to blackmail them. Combs wanted power over the women he abused and power of the men who took advantage of the abused women. They were all dominated and controlled by Combs. 

With so many powerful men exhibiting the wanton need for power, dominance, and control, we ALL should keep an eye on our millionaires and billionaires who can afford to pay people to round up victims and to keep their mouths sealed. Sex trafficking does not appear to be a POOR MAN'S GAME. Sean Combs, a billionaire, was given the key to New York City. Combs was given the key in September 2023 at a Times Square ceremony where Mayor Adams quipped at the time, “The bad boy of entertainment is getting the Key to the City from the bad boy of politics.” Sex trafficking rings depend on silence and money. More powerful men will probably go down with Combs. Watch this space.

DNA Biblical Before Scientific

Have you noticed it is harder and harder for people committing crimes such as murder to get away with it? Forensics have proven no matter how careful you are and how well planned a crime is, DNA is always left behind. A hair here, a partial fingerprint there, and if you sweat at the scene of the crime, that's DNA in which may lead to your apprehension. DNA analysis has become the go to in solving and catching criminals. The biological material used to determine a DNA profile include blood, semen, saliva, urine, feces, hair, teeth, bone, tissue, and cells. Which means wherever you go, you leave a piece of yourself behind in some way. As Clint Eastwood would say, "Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?”

In the beginning of using DNA to catch a criminal, the DNA left at the crime scene was the specific make-up of the criminal. NO TWO PEOPLE HAVE THE EXACT SAME DNA except twins. Identical twins, also called monozygotic (MZ) twins, share 100% of their genes, while fraternal twins, also called dizygotic (DZ) twins, share about 50% of their genes. Identical twins form when a single fertilized egg splits into two babies with the same DNA. 

The recovered DNA was an identifying source of the PERSON who was at the scene of the crime potentially being the one who committed the crime. But they had to match the DNA sample to the individual. Investigators had to have a SAMPLE already collected that would MATCH the sample they had collected from a crime. 

Police search available data banks to see if they have a DNA match. DNA databases are used to help identify the perpetrator. Crime scene evidence can also be linked to other crime scenes through the use of DNA databases.  For example, assume that a man was convicted of sexual assault.  At the time of his conviction, he was required to provide a sample of his DNA, and the resulting DNA profile was entered into a DNA database.  The federal government also collects DNA samples from persons convicted of offenses in certain categories, including crimes of violence or terrorism. 

The Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) Analysis Program is responsible for performing mtDNA analysis of forensic evidence containing SMALL or DEGRADED quantities of DNA on items of evidence submitted from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.  Mitochondrial DNA is a powerful tool available for investigating cases of kidnapping, missing persons, and skeletal remains where nuclear DNA is not present. Any sample left and collected at the scene of a crime can be used. The use of animal, plant, and microbial DNA to provide leads that may link DNA found on or near human perpetrators or victims to the actual perpetrator of the crime is also used.

The use of genealogical DNA samples does not need the actual perpetrator of the crime, but a relative sharing some of the criminal's DNA makeup. They find a relative with some of the criminal's DNA markers and TRACE the family member through his family tree narrowing down the criminal.

Police can't access the databases of direct-to-consumer DNA testing giants such as AncestryDNA and 23andMe without getting a court order from a judge first. Most turn instead to GEDmatch or FamilyTreeDNA — the two genealogy sites that don't require a warrant to access the data. Thierry Bernard, the CEO of GEDmatch’s parent company Qiagen, said in January 2023, about 70% of the GEDmatch database’s 1.8 million profiles are viewable to police. 

All of this ability to find criminals through DNA and Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is an exciting breakthrough for scientists and forensic investigators to solve crimes, but it is nothing new to those who read and study the Bible. Within the pages of the Bible, it tells you the power of BLOOD.

 "...the voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground" appears in Genesis 4:10-11. This was said by God to Cain when he killed his brother Able and tried to pretend, he didn't know what had happened to his brother.

Numbers 35:33 says, "So you shall not pollute and defile the land in which you live; for [the shedding of innocent] blood pollutes and defiles the land..."

Hebrews 4:13: "And no creature is HIDDEN from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account..."

"But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an ACCOUNTING from every ANIMAL. And from each MAN, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man. Genesis 9:4-5.

Throughout the Bible the importance of BLOOD is clear and any blood shed, human or animal, the blood tells a story that must be accounted for to God.  Blood SPEAKS and anything the lifeblood touches also speaks such as skin. spit, and hair.

Criminals may have been able to get away with murders and other violent crimes from police, but NEVER from God. Humans have developed scientific methods enabling them to see and hear what the biologicals sample have to say pertaining to who the sample belongs to. But God was the originator of being able to understand ALL biological samples of man. God SOLVED all of the CRIMES and said he will have an accounting of why the blood was spilled.

Many Christians prefer to ONLY rely on the Bible and turn their nose up at science. There is no need to DISMISS science to prove faith in the Bible and God because science usually gives the Bible more proof of its intended meanings. One of my Seminary professors said, science is always catching up to the Bible.

So, if you are thinking of committing a crime, remember, innocent blood cries out. Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?”

 

Forced To Be Pregnant (Hadley Duvall)

The most shocking sentence of the night at the DNC was by Hadley Duvall, from Kentucky, "[Donald Trump] calls [total abortion bans] a 'beautiful thing,'" Duvall said. "What is so beautiful about a child having to carry her parent's child?"

What she was talking about was having an opportunity to have a medical abortion for an unwanted pregnancy from rape by a parent. Countless times when I speak up for women being able to have the OPTION of having or not having a child, Christians will say a person cannot be a CHRISTIAN if they support MURDER. To be clear, I do see aborting a fetus as murder. But I also see forcing someone to have a child as potential murder of the mother's spirit, life, as well as the child's spirit and life. There is no telling what kind a life an unwanted child may face. They may even become that person you fear most, a CRIMINAL.

Aborting a child, leaves questions of what that life could have been. But we don't have questions about what WILL be when a woman is raped. And if we listen, we can hear what it will be like for a woman forced to carry and deliver a child produced from rape or incest.

Christians only envision a BUNDLE OF JOY. A glowing PREGNANT woman, refusing to see the violence, ugliness the VESSSEL carrying the baby endured and will perpetually endure. I used the word vessel, because people who INSIST a woman carry a pregnancy reduces the woman to no more than a body acting as a machine to produce a product. To them, statistics about rape doesn't matter. Okay, it doesn't matter. But they are TRUE. And for women who have had this brutality in their life, they should be FREE from people who have no idea of the TRAUMA they have experienced, making decisions in their lives. To me, that is unchristian, Forcing Christian standards on people. It is not the job of Christians. The Bible does not advocate for FORCING Christianity on anyone. 

Have your beliefs. Share your beliefs. But give the living a chance to live their lives as they choose. Forcing a woman to have an unwanted pregnancy is cruel and will cause damage beyond what you will stick around to witness.

Did you know Sexual Assault Awareness Month is in April, each year? I had no idea either. Years ago, I wrote a poem about rape called Every Three Minutes. I entered the poem in a contest and came in third place and I was so delighted because I am not a poet. I did not research the actual statistic on how often a woman is raped. I just have a thing for the number three and decided to use it. I believe using such an impossible high number of women being raped every three seconds would make my poem more impactful to the reader. LITTLE DID I KNOW AT THAT TIME.

Rape is one of those uncomfortable topics people don't want to speak about like racism or mental illness. The difference is rape is a violent criminal act that remains unreported by many victims. It is the one crime where the victim feels shame or guilt that a crime happened to them. Another factor that causing the rape victim to feel even worse they have been sexually assaulted is the fact 80% of sexual assaults are committed by acquaintances. Yes. Friend, uncle, boyfriend, co-worker, and even spouse commit sexual assaults on people they know. Seventy percent of rapes are by someone the victim knows.

Rape is such an unexplainable type of violation. It is an unwanted person physically using a person's body without permission. The rapist is inside of the person's body. How can someone describe their body being stolen from their control? The victim's body is no longer under their own control. 

I have a confession. At one time when I would hear a woman say she was raped or molested as a child, young woman, or adult I would shake my head at the horror inflicted on her. As the years rolled on it seemed almost every woman had an experience of rape or sexual assault until it become normal for me to hear and the story of rape or molestation no longer shocked to me. The horror of the crime didn't lesson my sympathy for the woman, but it just became common to hear and expected as part of the female experience. Did you hear what I just said? 

As of 1998 17.7 million American women had been victims of attempted or completed rape. That is a high number right? Approximately 1.5 million intimate partner female rapes and physical assaults happen each year according to data gathered in a February 10, 2022 report by the Department of Justice www.ncbi.nih.gov/books/NBK499891.

The FBI's Uniform Crime Report as of January 1, 2013, redefined rape as "Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object or oral penetrating  by a sex organ of another person, without consent of the victim.

Every 68 seconds an American woman is sexually assaulted. In the United States one rape occurs every 1-2 minutes (I guessed correctly for my poem sad to say). One out of every six American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime with 14% of the rapes completed and 2,8% of rapes attempted.

Eighty percent of sexual assaults are committed by an acquaintance and 80% of women experience a first-time sexual assault before the age of 25. Women between the ages of 16-19 are 4 times likely to be raped and women and men with disabilities are 2 times at risk of a sexual assault than people without a disability.  One in every 33 American men has experienced an attempted or completed sexual assault as a child. Twenty-eight percent first time sexual assault occurred at age 10 or younger.

It is important for me to include the fact children experience sexual assaults and never report it to family or authorities. Data reports 95% of child victims knew their sexual attacker. These sexual attackers are family members and friends of family members. Acting Commissioner of Police Edvin Martin said a surge in incest for 2020 compared to 2018-2019. There was a significant increase of incest during the height of Covid-19 lockdown period. 

People tend to have a blind eye when it comes to incest and that is how and why it continues to not be reported and allows 90% of these sexual assaults against children to occur in the home. Authorities estimate incest occurs in over 10% of American families, yet only 20% of the offenses are reported. The crime often goes unreported because it is initiated by someone the child, usually a girl, loves and trusts. Sibling incest is possibly the most common form of incest while 60% of the rapes occur in the home with 37% by a parent, 23% by a stepparent.

States with the highest incidence of incest are: Kentucky (the highest rate), Maine, Delaware, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, Georgia, Oregon, Indiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, West Virginia, Montana, Alabama, and South Dakota. Since incest is rarely reported, there is not reliable statistics as to how many incest victims there are.

The Criminal Justice System: Statistics Rapes, Abuse, & Incest National Network gives reasons why sexual abuse is not reported:

20% of victims feared retaliation

13% believed police would not do anything

13% believed it was a personal matter

8% reported the rape to a non-law-enforcement official

8% believed it was not important enough to report

7% did not want the perpetrator to get into trouble

2% believed the police could not help

30% had other multiple reasons

It is important not to sweep sexual assaults under the rug because there are long lasting consequences to the assault. In 2012, Missouri's Republican Senate candidate, Todd Akin, said victims of a "legitimate rape" rarely get pregnant because their bodies can prevent them from doing so which sparked outrage throughout the country. Such statements as the one made by Todd Akins continues to downplay the crime of sexual assault against women which has long lasting consequences. 

Women who experience sexual assaults may have depression and substance abuse problems. It is estimated 90% of rape victims experience PTSD symptoms during the 2 weeks following the rape. And 30% report PTSD lasting up to 9 months and 33% contemplate suicide and 13% commit suicide. 

The most important thing a woman, person, should know is sexual assaults is not the victim's fault and there are no sure tried and true ways to prevent sexual assaults. There are ways to reduce the chances of rape in the link I have provided. Men who commit rape can not be defind or identified by any fact based means. The prototypical convicted rapist is frequently under 25, shorter than average height, poor, and a resident of the inner city. many rapist live in college towns and rape during the evening hours. There have been 3 common characteristics of rapist noticed, lack of empathy, narcissism, and hostility towards women, but may not be true of all rapists. 

There are 3 catagories of rapists:

The Opportunist Rapist: this rapist seizes any chance for sexual gratification, such as loss of self control on the part of their victim under the influence of alcohol

The Sadistic Rapist: motivations are to humiliate or degrade the victim

The Vindictive Rapist: has anger and aggression focused directly towards women. Such a rapist believes he is permitted to sexually attack women because he feels he has been hurt, rejected, or wronged by women in the past

Membership requires a forced relinquishment of pride of self -esteem
