Donald Trump and those who support him say they do not know Kamala Harris' ethnicity. Does a person running for president of the United States have to declare an ethnicity? There are countless Caucasians who love to tell you they are Italian, German, or Irish. To people who run into them daily, they are just White people. After taking my DNA with Ancestry.com, my ancestors are from Benin, Africa.
The Kingdom of Benin developed an advanced artistic culture, especially in its famous artifacts of bronze, iron, and ivory. The most well-known artifact is based on Queen Idia, now known as the Benin ivory mask. Ivory masks were meant to be worn around the waist of kings. To people who run into me on the street, I'm just a Black person.
According to the 2020 United States census, 10.2% of the population, or 33.8 million people, identify as multiracial. This number includes people who self-identify as having mixed-race ancestry and who identify with just one group culturally and socially. Our first Black president, Barak Obama, was biracial. If you ran into him on the streets, he would just be a Black man walking.
JD Vance is Donald Trump's selection for vice president, and he has biracial children. The Republican vice-presidential nominee has three children of his own, Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel. Usha Chilukuri Vance (née Chilukuri; born January 6, 1986) is an American lawyer. She is the wife of JD Vance, Ohio's junior United States Senator and Donald Trump's running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Usha Chilukuri was born in a suburb of San Diego, California, to Telugu-speaking Indian immigrants. Usha's family belong to the Telugu Brahmin community and migrated from Andhra Pradesh, India, in the 1980s. She was raised in San Diego's upper-middle-class Rancho Penasquitos suburb. Should their children have to choose ONE of their ethnicities and never waiver from that choice no matter what for life? Can Vance's children choose to be BROWN, or must they choose to be Caucasian?
A new study shows that most people who are biracial self-identify as biracial. But in many instances, multi-ethnic Americans change the way they self-identify. As the nation has become more diverse, increasing numbers of Americans are multiracial, or belong to more than one racial group. The multiracial population is one of the fastest-growing groups in the United States. Biracial women are more likely than men to identify with both of their races rather than one, and biracial people from more affluent backgrounds are more likely to identify as just white. Kamala comes from humble beginnings, no wonder she acknowledges her paternal and maternal ethnicity.
This attempt at pretending not to know the ethnicity of Kamala Harris is offensive. She is a blend of two people from two different ethnicities who married and had children. It is almost if we are going into the territory of saying, "If you are not of a singular ethnicity, we can't decide how to treat you, or profile you." The next thing we know, we will be back into the territory of being against interracial couples, if we are not still there now.
Laws against interracial marriages are not that far in the past. Interracial marriage has been legal in the United States since the 1967 Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia. In this case, the court ruled that Virginia's 1924 Racial Integrity Act (RIA) prohibiting mixed-race marriage was unconstitutional. The last state to repeal its anti-miscegenation law was Alabama in 2000. The Respect for Marriage Act of 2022 guarantees marriage equality for interracial and same-sex couples under federal law. We won't go back, even when religion is invoked for political purposes.
Now. Please go down memory lane with me.
When I began this blog, it was intended to chronicle all my exploits in promoting my very first book Diary of a Wannabe Gardener. I did in person public speaking events about flower meanings, superstitions/folk lore about flowers, and talked about the main character's gardening journey in my book. It was fun for me and those who came to the event.
As time went on, I went to Seminary and my blog began to drift more towards religion and politics as Barack Obama threw his hat in the ring to run for president of the United States, 2008. If you read some of my posts during that time, I did vent my frustrations from time to time during that time when racism reared its ugly head with freedom and recklessness. I tried to be mindful/thoughtful how I vented my frustrations during that election cycle that was CRAZY to say the least. Remember, I always advocate the Bible verse, "Be angry but do not sin." Shortly after, If I remember correctly, my book When Will Eve Be Forgiven? (My love child) and The Politics of Prayer was published and promoted.
My blog went silent for several years as my life took a turn and the universe and God taught me a few things I needed to learn. I entered the hard knock life phase of my life. Since the age of 10 I had prayed for wisdom. The Bible says to ask for wisdom, and he will freely give it to you "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him" James 1:5 in the Bible. You get wisdom through living and surviving life's ups and downs. You can't be wise if you don't experience things. Five decades later I can say I am wiser and understand the process of wisdom.
Here we are today with a revamped blog I use to promote all of my books, two newly published in 2022, Manhood Interrupted An Answer For The Red Pill Man and Don't Dread Dreads The People Speak. I decided to do interviews of women o my blog on topics that I am most interested in and feature those interviews on Wednesday With Women. I write about women issues, so it is only natural that I use my blog to lift up women.
I said all of the above to get to today's post which is something that bothers me to my core. I don't want my blog to be a blog filled with rants. I want my blog to be a place/space for enlightenment, but it is my blog and my personal forum and maybe from time to time a rant is called for. I hate religious people twisting Scripture from the Bible willfully or out of ignorance (lack of knowledge). It does so much damage to people who trust that person to know/understand what they are teaching/saying as biblical truth.
A person I follow on Facebook posted the Bible is against different races marrying. They said God wanted pure races/DNA and people were going to be punished for interracial marriages. She said the Scripture said so. I know this person in a kind of when we meet, we greet each other and do the little polite banter and move on. She says she is a prophet and believes in demons and God shows her the sinful spirit of others. She speaks in tongues and prays holy fire down on everything and sometimes everyone. On the public stage we have two vice presidents who are in interracial marriages! What is a religious person to do?
I wrestled whether to respond to her post or not. She often says things I do not agree with, so this post was no surprise. I pretty much know if I respond with disagreement, she may say I have a demon spirit of false doctrine. But something in me (demon or not) made me decide to respond. I will update you all on her response if there is one. ***She was silent and to my surprise did not block or unfriend me.***
There is not one instance in the Bible where there is an instruction to not have interracial marriage. During slavery the Bible was used by White people saying interracial marriages were forbidden and later in history hate groups like the KKK repeated this idea using the Bible to protest interracial marriages which would produce interracial children. They may have had the foreknowledge of knowing biracial children would not pick racial sides.
The Scriptures used were:Exodus 34:11-16 New International Version Don't Worship Other Gods
"Obey what I command you today. I will drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare among you. Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles. Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
“Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices. And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same."
Deuteronomy 7:1-3 New International Version Driving Out the Nations
"When the Lord your
God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out
before you many nations—the
Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites,
Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations larger and
stronger than you— and when the Lord your God has
delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must
destroy them totally. Make
no treaty with them and show them no mercy. Do
not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take
their daughters for your sons,"
2 Corinthians 6:14 New International Version Warning Against Idolatry
"Do not be yoked together with
unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or
what fellowship can light have with darkness?"
The above instructions on who to or not to marry had to do with RELIGOUS beliefs and practices not ETHNICITY or RACE! God knew there would be problems if a husband was of one religion and a wife was of another religious belief. Sooner or later (more than likely), one would have to pick one religion to be the religion of the home and family.
King Solomon lost the favor of God for marrying outside of his religion. Solomon built places where his pagan wives could worship and of course these wives invited him to worship their gods: "On a hill east of Jerusalem, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the detestable god of Moab, and for Molech the detestable god of the Ammonites. He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods."1 Kings 11:7-8.
If there are any others out there continuing to use the Bible to say races cannot marry (interracial marriages) JUST STOP!
If you claim a position of authority as an instrument of God, it is your duty to study thoroughly what you say and teach. Running back and forth from the Old and New Testament to prove your agenda is WRONG. Taking one verse of Scripture and not understanding the context in which it was said in the fullness of the chapter is WRONG. Context is EVERYTHING. Don't declare you are an instrument of God and when someone does not agree with you or question you, you become defensive or even hostile condemning the person seeking understanding or more clarity to what you are saying.
Once again, I must say "Smart people learn from everything and everyone, an average person learns from their experiences, and stupid people already have all of the answers."
If there is anyone reading this post and know of a Bible verse that says different races or ethnicities should not marry, please comment to educate me on this subject of interracial marriage. The seven nations named for the Jews not to marry, once again are: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, even though they were of similar ethnic makeup as the Jews. There is no evidence they were of African, Hispanic, Caucasian, Asian, etc., ethnicity.
I must warn you all. I do post on current events, and this may lead to me having future rants. I hope within my rants I lead readers to have dialogue themselves on the topics. I am more than open to opposing views and opportunities to be enlightened/educated. This is a safe space of love for all opinions especially when it comes to religion.
So. Does Kamala Harris or JD Vance's children have to declare one ethnicity for life? Do all of the growing population of children who it seems likely will continue to have multi-racial children have to declare one singular ethnicity? Will the old biblical teachings of races not mixing rear its ugly head again? Or is the Browning of America here to stay where the lines of Black and White have been tinted?
Ask an Italian will they give up their claim of being Italian knowing their great-great-grandfather was as close to Italian they will ever be. Their Italian ancestry is a point of pride. They won't give up the claim. If Kamala Harris checks an Indian box for twenty years and then checks a Jamaican box for twenty years, she is entitled to. She will not be a lie on either account. The Black community is proud she identifies as Black, but we would not be offended if she identified as Indian. Because in America, both of these ethnicities are looked down on. We can identify with her being a minority times two. It is CLEAR to see, neither of the ethnicities gives her a heads up in politics.
