Lately, there has been enough of strange natural phenomena in the news to scare the pants off of the most sane person. Yes, I am refering to birds droping dead in mass and fish washing up on shores, dead, for no apparent reason. At first, many people called for an explaination or presented their own. But, as with most things, our lack of attention span kicked in and we moved on to the next thing we were to quickly lose interest in. I, on the other hand, waited until everyone else had calmed down to stir the pot of "WHAT THE DEVIL IS GOING ON!" again.
No viable explaination has been given for the massive amount of dead birds and the autopsy report seems to be missing. I know mass hysteria is not in the best interest of the nation, but still, WHAT HAPPENED? 2010 proved to be an interesting year. I have never neglected to acknowledge the fact that I am living in history making times. This era I am priveledged to live in allows news from every region of the world to be piped in to me as soon as it happens. There is an onslaught of natural tragedy reported almost weekly; thus the title of my post: freak of the week. That said, let's recap some of the news worthy happenings of 2010. Natural Disasters in 2010: In the World There were quite a number of 2010 natural disasters, the aftermath of which people are still facing. There had been floods, there had been hurricanes, earthquakes, avalanches and what not. Here is a list of some of the worst natural disasters 2010. Haiti Earthquake The Haiti earthquake occurred around the 12th of January, 2010. This earthquake had a magnitude of 7.0 Mw and its epicenter was near the town of Leogane. Within the next 12 days i.e. within 24th of January, there were at least 52 aftershocks, each shock measuring around 4.5 and plus on the Richter scale. Roughly 3 million people were affected and 230,000 people had died, 1,000,000 people were homeless and the loss to property was immense. All sorts of communication was hampered. Pakistan Floods Another 2010 natural disaster was the flood in Pakistan. In July 2010, due to heavy monsoons in the area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab, in Pakistan, nearly one fifth of the total land area in Pakistan went under water. Around 2000 people lost their lives in the flood, the country's economy was affected, infrastructure and property were also destroyed. This was a recent natural disaster in 2010. Northern Hemisphere Summer Heat Wave The months of May, June, July and August, saw a massive rise in temperature in the areas of USA, Mongolia, Taiwan, China, North Africa, the whole of Europe, and some parts of Canada, Russia, Indochina, Japan and South Korea, due to the Northern Hemisphere Summer Heat Wave. The rise in temperature caused series of forest fires in China, that killed a number of people. Some areas also reported drought like situations, thus further increasing the death toll. Iceland Volcanic Eruptions Another natural disaster 2010 was the volcanic eruption in Iceland. On March 20th, 2010, Mount Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland erupted and it erupted again on the 14th of April, 2010, disrupting air traffic across the whole of Northern Europe, thus stranding many passengers and the aviation losses amounted to around millions of dollars due to the cancellation of the flights. Mount Merapi Volcano Eruption, Indonesia On the 25th of October 2010, Mt. Merapi erupted, killing around 386 people. The hot ashes, the gas clouds that were formed due to this eruption caused respiratory problems in people, hence, the increase in death toll. These were some of the major 2010 natural disasters. Here's a list of some other natural disasters 2010 had in store. •Salang avalanches, North of Kabul (Afghanistan) on February 8th and 9th •Kohistan avalanches, NWFP (Pakistan) on February 17 killing around 100 people. •Earthquake in Chile on February 27th, killing around 521 people. Richter scale shows 8.8 (higher than Haiti, but death toll lower than Haiti). •Tropical storm Hubert in Madagascar on 12th March, killing 36 people and many injured. •Papua earthquake in June 2010, killing 17 people •North American Blizzard was one of the natural disasters in 2010 in the United States. Around 40 people were killed in this blizzard. •Tropical storm Hermine, in September in Guatemala, killing around 100. •Tibet earthquake killing nearly 2000 plus people •Tropical cyclone Ului, in Australia from March 9th to 24th. Thus, these were some of the natural disasters 2010 had had witnessed. Many people lost their lives, many people became homeless, the affected countries suffered a lot economically, but one good thing happened out of these disasters, all countries, irrespective of the relation that they shared, stepped forward to help each other at the time of need. As of january 5, 2011 The Star reported Wednesday that more than 40,000 dead Velvet swimming crabs have appeared on the Thanet shoreline in England. Dead starfish, lobsters, sponges and anemones were also found. About 50 to 100 dead birds were discovered on a highway in central Sweden Tuesday. Scientists don't know what killed the jackdaws but one veterinarian suspects they may have been frightened by fireworks and then run over by a car. The Brazillian site Paraná-Online noted that 100 tons of fish have turned up dead off the coast of Paraná since last Thursday. According to Google Translate, the site reported that the fish included sardine, croaker and catfish. Residents of Beebe, Arkansas awoke Saturday to find thousands of dead birds across a 1.5-square-mile area. The estimate was raised from a thousand dead red-winged blackbirds to about 5,000 Monday. Some 100 miles away, officials discovered 100,000 dead drum fish in the Arkansas river Thursday.By David Edwards By Kerry Sheridan (AFP) – Jan 6, 2011 WASHINGTON — Five thousand dead blackbirds rained from the sky on the first day of the New Year in Arkansas. Then more dead birds fell in other states. Then huge fish kills were discovered in multiple US waterways. And suddenly it became a worldwide phenomenon, with reports of mass die-offs of birds and fish in Sweden, Britain, Japan, Thailand, Brazil and beyond. Doves, jellyfish, snapper, jackdaws... it seemed no species was immune. Conspiracy theorists, doomsdayers and religious extremists warned that the end was nigh. Well, when it begins raining birds instead of cats and dogs, people are going to talk. These unexplained occurances coming back to back like birth pains explained within the Scripture have sparked many bloggers and facebookers to begin to predict the END. Enter stage left, the date for the end of the world. There is a group making sure that they get their prediction of a May 11, 2011 rapture out there followed by an October 2011 end of the world date. For those with mental instability, this is definitly a message they do not need to hear. Serious, forceful, prophetic proclaimations have not begun, but I guess as the year progresses and the closer these dates come (even 2012 end time date) we will see an upsurge in evangelical efforts. Whether we know for sure the date of the end of the world, I have been telling people to take inventory of their souls. This is not a new message for me, it is the same message I have said for years and try to live by. No matter what the cry of the masses may be, the only way to live through any of them is to be sure you have done everything possible to ensure the safety of your own soul. Everything will end one day, that day is not known, and the only portion under your control is the state of your soul. I wonder for all of those who have set up tent in the corner of 'women can not teach men,' does this hold true when a lost world is facing certain doom? Can only a man reach the multitude? Or will the woman at the well be set free to go to her own town to tell the gospel to ALL who will hear? The time for fighting over the pulpit has passed. The times are bigger than a pulpit. I hope everyone will leave the PULPIT, because all of the people seated before it are more than likely saved and have been occupying those seats for years in front of the pulpit. Natural disasters worldwide, animals dying in mass numbers, WOMEN REMAIN SILENT. Think about it.
